Japan
What do you know about Japan? The land of the rising sun, Mount Fuji, the bullet train and sushi are markers that barely do justice to this diverse land where the old and the new, past and present sit side by side. 'Nihon' or 'Nippon, to give it its correct Japanese title, is a country of approximately 127 million people, but where only 25% of the land is inhabitable (due to much of the country being mountainous). Cities are large, bustling and exciting places, whereas Japan's beautiful and often unsung countryside provides the necessary and relaxing escape. Japan's geography is such that one can experience sub-tropical islands in the south and skiing in the Japan Alps and its northernmost, 'wilderness' island of Hokkaido. Depending on the time of year, you can even accomplish both extremes in one trip!
