Teachers may expect to teach students a of wide range of levels (from basic beginner to advanced) and ages (from 2yrs old) during the course of a working week, if not a working day. They will also teach students interested in learning general English, English for Special Purposes, and students studying business and exam preparation English. Teachers will teach large groups, small groups and 1-1 private lessons as part of their regular teaching schedule, providing for a significant amount of interest and variety. The excellent academic support provided to all SESJ teachers throughout their time with us, through training courses such as FELT (Foundation in English Language Teaching), TEYL (Teaching English to Younger Learners) and on-going teacher development workshops ensures that teachers are well prepared for life in the classroom. In July 2006, SESJ ran its first ever Trinity Cert TESOL Course, run on a part-time basis for SESJ teachers (allowing them to continue to work while studying for a further qualification), and at a significantly discounted rate. This course is also the first to be run by any school anywhere in Japan.

No TEFL qualification?
If you do not possess a recognised and accredited TEFL qualification, there are many training centres around the world that offer them. Please click the link below to find out more about the courses on offer.
If you are unable to take any of these courses, you may still be able to apply for a teaching position with SES Japan, but you must be prepared to undertake our own in-house Foundation in English Language Teaching (FELT) course, prior to starting teaching for us. Regrettably, these courses are presently only run in Japan and in the UK, though we hope to expand these to other countries in the near future, so you must be currently resident in one of these countries.
