Teacher Training and Development

Trinity College London Cert TESOL

SESJ has been the only provider of the Trinity College London Cert
TESOL in Japan since 2006.

The Cert TESOL is designed for those with little or no experience of teaching English and is also ideal for existing teachers of English
who do not have a professional certificate.

The Cert TESOL provides the basic skills and knowledge needed to take up a first post as an English language teacher.
The program gives an introduction to the theory behind language teaching, an insight into the challenges facing the language learner, and also the role of the teacher.

The qualification is awarded upon passing a course which includes supervised teaching practice and written assignments.
It is accredited in the United Kingdom by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at Level 4 on the UK National Qualifications Framework. The Cert TESOL is the equivalent to the CELTA and is widely respected and recognised by language schools around the world.

The Cert TESOL is conducted full-time during the summer (4 weeks) and also part-time throughout the year which means it is also suitable for participants who wish to continue working while they study for a professional certificate. The course is held in Tokyo and has over one hundred hours of face to face instruction and six hours of supervised teaching practice. The course is open to anyone who is interested.

Trinity College London Licentiate Diploma TESOL

SESJ is the only Japan based provider of the LTCL Dip TESOL. The LTCL Dip TESOL is perfect for experienced teachers who wish to develop their careers and move into teacher management, teacher training, and materials and course design.

The LTCL Dip TESOL is a blended course delivered through the MOODLE open source learning environment. This means that the course is part delivered online and part delivered face to face.

The Licentiate Diploma in TESOL (LTCL Dip TESOL) is a professional qualification awarded in the teaching of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) by Trinity College London.

The diploma is awarded upon passing a course which includes an externally examined written paper and oral interview, an internally assessed and externally moderated coursework portfolio, and a teaching practice component that includes four internally assessed and externally moderated lessons, plus one externally examined lesson. All components are monitored and examined by Trinity examiners.

The LTCL TESOL is accredited in the United Kingdom by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at NQF Level 7. However, the LTCL TESOL Diploma is widely recognized around the world.

This course is open to everyone: All candidates for the LTCL TESOL must have completed an initial teaching certificate course validated by Trinity College London. They must also have a first degree or equivalent; a minimum of two years' recent full-time ESOL teaching experience; and an ability to speak and write English appropriate for a teacher of English at advanced levels.
